City of Music
On October 31, 2023, Bydgoszcz was declared a City of Music, as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. We have been recognized thanks to our musical heritage, musical achievements on the international arena, but most importantly – for the multitude and variety of musical events on offer in the city, and for the potential and creative ideas related to the musical development of Bydgoszcz.
What it means to us
Wehave gained international recognition as a city that focuses on development through creative industries and culture. In addition, entry into the Network opens up many opportunities for cooperation with other creative cities around the world, including Polish cities in the Network. Our national music fraternal city isKatowice, which was listed in 2015.
What we do
In connection with its entry into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, projects, exhibitions, panel discussions and other initiatives in the music industry will be implemented to meet the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It m. in. Exchange of experience, knowledge and good practices; implementation of pilot projects, partnerships and initiatives linking the public sector, private sector and civil society institutions; art exchange networks and programs; studies, research and evaluation processes analyzing the experience of Creative Cities, policies and measures taken to ensure sustainable urban development; communication and activities to raise public awareness of the role of culture.
Who
The operating entity of the Bydgoszcz City of Music UNESCO program is the Municipal Cultural Center in Bydgoszcz.
