ALA-MEDA and Noums Dembele

2026

On the last day of February (February 28, 2026), the MCK will host a unique concert—the result of an artistic residency and intercontinental collaboration between ||ALA|MEDA|| and Noums Dembele live at the MCK Bydgoszcz (PREMIERE). At the invitation of the Bydgoszcz band, Noums Dembélé, an outstanding musician and multi-instrumentalist from Burkina Faso and a virtuoso on the kora, is coming to our city.

During these increasingly longer February days, a new musical language will emerge here—one in which technology meets primitive rhythm and melody, and intercultural dialogue becomes a real artistic experience that transcends the boundaries of world music.

About the Artists:
Noums Dembele, known mainly for playing the kora – a typical West African harp, i.e. an instrument strongly associated with the Mandinka tradition, is developing cooperation on various musical levels, playing with several bands performing African music (Faso Tamala, Moribaya), but he has also worked with experimental rock bands (including Hizbut Jamm, led by Raphael Rogiński).

Since 2022, the ||ALA|MEDA|| group has been working on a project entitled “Spectra,” which is an original reinterpretation of traditional and modern rhythms characteristic of Africa and South America. This has resulted in a new artistic direction that is “spectral” in many senses: it creates a continuum of various musical tropes, combining such diverse genres as gqom, free jazz, UK bass, krautrock, IDM, post-industrial, and batida into a single, diverse whole. The idea behind the new work of ||ALA|MEDA||, also in collaboration with artists from other continents, is the total integration of electronics with live performance and the blurring of all divisions between high and low art, sublime and vulgar creativity, avant-garde and entertainment, music “for the soul” and music “for the body.”
