On World Bicycle Day – June 3, 2024 – our Big Bike Orchestra received the “Special Award for World Bicycle Day” at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The award was given for the innovative promotion of cycling through music during Eurotrip 2023 at Big Bike – from Bydgoszcz to Europe. In previous years, the same award for bicycle promotion in the music category went to the band Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
The orchestra also played a concert in front of UNESCO delegates from around the world making, as always, a great impression and ending the concert with thunderous applause.
Along with the Orchestra, a city delegation went to the UNESCO headquarters, specifically – representatives of the Bydgoszcz City of Music UNESCO program. There at the Roundtable, program head Anna Tarnowska took part in a debate titled “The Role of the Bicycle as an Instrument for Sustainable Development.”
This is a great honor, especially since in the fall of 2023 Bydgoszcz joined the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in the field of music.
