Culture a flywheel for change
In 2021, Bydgoszcz applied for the first time to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music. In 2023, the City prepared an application for the second time, which included new projects. Work on the application was preceded by design workshops and meetings with Bydgoszcz’s wide-ranging music community. The application was approved by the UNESCO Committee – the results will be known in late autumn 2023.
Bydgoszcz was the first city in Poland to sign the Pact for Culture, a social contract created from the bottom up, whose parties pledged to work together for the development of Bydgoszcz, building its cultural capital and establishing a civic model of cultural management based on responsible public participation.
The aftermath of the signing of the Pact was the deliberations of the 1st Bydgoszcz Congress of Culture, whose task was to anchor the city’s development process in culture and its implementation through culture.
