On October 1, the world celebrates International Music Day. This year, in Bydgoszcz, we will celebrate this holiday under unique circumstances – because for the first time as a UNESCO City of Music, which Bydgoszcz became late last year. We are one of 75 cities in the world that can boast such a title and at the same time the second in Poland. Therefore, in 2024 we will celebrate International Music Day not for one day, but for more than three weeks.
We invite you to the “Sound Rehearsal” – A series of concerts within the framework of International Music Day. We start on September 24 and end on October 17. Music will resound during this time in more than a dozen locations in our city. It will be heard in clubs, cultural institutions, universities, art galleries and schools. You will be able to listen to jazz, classical, popular, alternative or experimental music.
All concerts within the framework of “Sound Rehearsal” are free of charge. However, FREE ENTRY or SEAT RESERVATION will apply to some of them.

24.09 (Tuesday) Street Recital at Dusk – Adam Kosmieja
ul. Gimnazjalna street, 7 pm
It will be a mesmerizing journey in an unusual concert arrangement by Adam Kosmiea – one of the most interesting pianists of his generation, who fills concert halls around the world.
So it promises to be an atmospheric piano recital, with night as its theme. The program of the concert will include works by, among others: Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, as well as Ryūichi Sakamoto and Max Richter.

25.09 (Wednesday) Phonograph Darkroom – radio play
Attic of the Main Library (Old Market 22-24), 7 pm
The phonograph darkroom is a kind of theater of sound and words enclosed in eight chapters. It is a story about a certain journey to the source of sound and music. It is a project based on the author’s text and compositions prepared especially for this occasion.

26.09 (Thursday) Bydgoszcz Experiment Studio – Krzysztof Ostrowski / Mateusz Wysocki / AGF
Klub Mózg (2 Parkowa St.), 8 pm
The latest installment of the Bydgoszcz Experiment Studio project, which aims to build a platform for innovative and uncompromising creative activities. The presented material is the result of a two-day artistic residency of three musicians working in various genres. BSE is part of the larger project THE PLATFORM OF THE NEWLY TRANSGRESSIVE SOUNDS.

27.09 (Friday) Bydgoscy Muzycy w Tribute to Music
ICC Concert Hall (12-14 Marcinkowskiego St.), 7:30 p.m., tickets available from 09.09 at the ICC box office, valid.
The 15th anniversary of the concert series, during which Bydgoszcz musicians pay tribute to various legends. This time, in view of this almost-circular anniversary, the artists will pay tribute to the music itself, playing hits from the 60s to the 00s.

28.09 (Saturday) The Postman – Beatles from Polkowice
Brda wharf at Lemar’s Barge (1 Spichlerna St.), 7 pm
During Saturday’s concert by The Postman – the Beatles from Polkowice will transport us to rainy 1960s Liverpool so that we can feel the dancing power of the spirit of rock’n’roll. And in the early afternoon, you’ll be able to catch a double-decker bus in London, where a brass band will play their arrangements.

Svahy is a folk band formed by three friends from the city who fell in love with rural Kuyavia and Paluki. They play unique instruments and sing stories from the lives of old villagers. Interestingly, their music can be heard in the new adaptation of “Znachor.”

01.10 (Tuesday) Outdoor concert: brass quintet B.A.J.K.A. and percussion group
Square in front of the Pomeranian Philharmonic (6 Andrzeja Szwalbego St.), 5:30 pm
Artists normally associated with the Symphony Orchestra of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, in chamber ensembles, will present the works of outstanding composers of different styles and eras. It will be classical, although there will also be entertainment pieces.

06.10 (Sunday) Wij + The Howling Eye
Over The Under Pub (51 Dworcowa St.), 7 p.m.
The Howling Eye is a trio spread across three sides of Poland, combining heavy riffs in which an alert ear will find traces of many metal and hard rock genres from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The Howling Eye combines rocking drums, fat bass, massive riffs and guitar melodies not of this earth to create a unique strain of psychedelic rock.

08.10 (Tuesday) Musica Parlante – inauguration of the academic year

The Musica Parlante program reflects the profound changes that took place in the Age of Enlightenment in the mid-18th century. This is a time when the absolutism of the Baroque gave way to a sentimental style in composition. C.Ph.E. Bach, G.A. Brescianello and G.Ph. Telemann, whose works will be presented at the concert, proved to be visionary composers. Each, in his own way, helped shape the musical dawn of a new era.

15.10 (Tuesday) Family Jazz Granie – Jazz BigBand ’75
Pałac Młodzieży (27 Jagiellońska St.), 6:00 pm
Jazz Big Band’75, led by Dr. Piotr Dabrowski, is an orchestra operating at the Artistic Studio of the Bydgoszcz Youth Palace. The Palace’s animators and the BRAX, Amulecik, Sigma and DMT dance groups will invite the audience to join in the fun to the rhythms of film, fairy tale and illustration music.

16.10 (Wednesday) Open Rehearsal for the public: “The Servant Mistress,” a comic opera by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi

This is the only opportunity to look at the director’s work with the artists, listen to suggestions and comments (yes, there will probably be interruptions!), see the scenery being created and the technical aspects of working on an opera performance. What’s more! Due to the construction of the performance, the audience will also take part in some parts of it.

17.10 Thursday “Kuba Ziolek plays” – concert within the framework of the double opening of exhibitions: Monika Korona and Natalia Wegner
Common Gallery (1/3 Batory St.), 7 pm
Jakub Ziolek, a musician from Bydgoszcz, will present soundscapes that make room for the sounds of old, broken and disjointed string instruments, as well as cold spots and synth drones, trying to manage the paradoxical space between the familiar and the foreign.
